Welcome to the Walker School Library!
Hello, my name is Linda Lee. I have worked at Walker since February 2004 in different roles. However, my favorite by far is being our school's librarian! I have had the privilege for almost a decade now, and I am SO excited to work with our student body and to share my love of reading with them and to encourage all to READ, READ, READ!
The Library is open every school day from 7:10a.m.-2:45p.m..
Students visit the Library once each week with their class. Library books are due back each class visit even if a student plans to renew their book. This will help students learn good habits and to be responsible for their library books.
Kindergartners and first graders are allowed to check out one book at a time. Second grade through fifth grade students may check out two books each week. The loan period is one week, although students can renew books that require more time if the book is not on reserve for another patron. Students are encouraged to return or renew books often to avoid having overdue books.
Parents and guardians are invited to set up a patron account and use the library to check out books to be read with their children at home. Up to five books at a time can be checked out for a two-week loan period. Shared reading is a great way to develop a life-long love of books!!
Thank you in advance for helping your child(ren) to be a responsible library patron by keeping books safe from damage while on loan and returning books on time. We often talk about what it looks like to be respectful, responsible, safe and kind in the library, just like we practice these guidelines throughout our school campus and your child should be able to share them with you.
Important conversation to have at home: Our students vary in age, reading levels, and levels of maturity, and our library has a diversified collection of literature meant to meet the needs and interests of all our students. While our library is organized in a way that helps steer students toward books at their "just right" reading level, the personal interests of students play a large role in the choice of books students check out. If there is a subject that you prefer your child not to read about, please have that conversation with him/her, so he/she may be prepared to choose books in keeping with your wishes.
Sincerely,
Linda Lee

In the library: Students are expected to observe the generally accepted regulations regarding library usage, including:
Overdues and Fines
Part of the Kind Kids pledge states "I pledge to be; respectful, responsible and proud...". In our library, we encourage students to practice responsibility by taking care of the books they check out, and returning them on time for others to be able to borrow. In doing this they can also show respect to others and be proud that they are doing what is right.
Teachers: You may keep materials for as long as needed unless requested by another staff member. You must check out with the library and have all materials returned at the end of the year unless previous arrangements have been made.
Capstone ebooks are accessible 24/7/365 days a year because they are unlimited access for multiple readers and the best part is you can read them anytime you want, after school hours and even on the weekend!
I have been able to purchase these books through generous tax credit donations. Thanks you for supporting our school library and literacy!

As part of our continual efforts to show transparency and compliance here in Amphitheater Public Schools, book titles being considered for purchase and that are added to our library catalog will be posted here periodically (as funds become available) for a period of at least seven days prior to purchase and sixty days after purchase. Limited stock on hand means that some of the titles that I am trying to purchase may not be added at this time.
I am always excited about being able to provide our students with books that they are constantly requesting to check out and to replace cherished titles that have been "well loved" to pieces, lol. This doesn't happen too often, however, so check back once in a while to see if new books have made their way to our library shelves!
Thank you in advance for your support of literacy and love of reading.
Just fyi, all titles in our district's school libraries can be viewed at the following link.

Although it has been said that I have "worn many hats" over the past fifteen + years working here at Lulu Walker, I can not choose any one of them as being my favorite experience, however elementary school librarian has been my dream job since my youngest child/daughter was born in 1998. Each position here at Walker Elementary has helped to mold me into the person I am today.
I started my career here while my daughter attended kindergarten in 2003. I was volunteering in her classroom every day and her teacher, Ms. Bermudez, along with many of the other staff encouraged me to apply for the campus monitor job that became available later in the year. I haven't looked back since!
